What is Spaces?

Spaces is where your company's documents, chats, tasks, and knowledge live together — and are maintained by Atlas. Notion, Slack, and Linear in one surface, so there's nothing left to stitch together and nothing that can quietly go stale. Channels, pages, databases, files, calendars, and projects all sit in one tree with one permission model and one search index.

Why does it matter that it is all one product?

Bolt an AI onto one tool and it sees one tool's slice of your company. Wire tools together with connectors and the context is already stale by the time anything reads it — which is fatal for an agent that is supposed to ship real work unattended. An agent that works overnight needs every surface in sync all the time. That only happens if one system owns all of them.

What does Atlas actually do in here?

It works on a schedule rather than waiting to be asked. Merge a PR at the end of the day and Atlas closes the tracking issue, rewrites the pages that now describe the old behaviour, drafts the launch post from the actual change, files the follow-ups raised in review, and books the review meeting with the right people on it — with the decision that started it all tracked through its full lifecycle. It also answers directly in channels and DMs as a real author.

What does "local-first" mean in practice?

Every read hits a SQLite database on your own machine, so the interface never waits on a server. Every write lands on disk first and syncs in the background. With no connection, mutations queue locally and drain when you reconnect; anything the server rejects is rolled back cleanly. Pages and database records reconcile through CRDTs, so two people editing the same paragraph both keep their work.

Which platforms can I run it on?

The macOS desktop app is signed and notarized, runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel, and updates itself. There is also a web app that runs entirely in the browser. Windows and Linux desktop builds are not out yet — you can join the waitlist on the downloads page.

Can I self-host it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Spaces is Apache 2.0 end to end. Run the Docker Compose file on a single machine, or the Helm chart on Kubernetes with autoscaling, ingress, persistent volumes, and scheduled Postgres backups. You need Postgres 16+ with pgvector, Redis or Valkey, and a storage backend — filesystem, S3, GCS, or Azure Blob all work.

What does it cost, and can I bring my existing work across?

Spaces Cloud is our managed server and is free while it is in beta; pricing will be announced before that changes. Self-hosting is free under Apache 2.0. Importers exist for both Slack and Notion, so you can bring existing conversations and pages with you rather than starting from an empty workspace.
